Warwick Castle

Yesterday, we had the most amazing day at Warwick Castle. When we first arrived we headed up the towers and did the rampart walk. Some of us were nervous about climbing all those spiral stairs and getting to the top. But we were very proud of ourselves and it was a great sense of achievement and relief when we got to the bottom of the last tower.

Next was the maze. We collected our 'Time Passport' and set about finding the six periods of history and collected a stamp from each one.

We had a giggle taking these photos and finding out some interesting facts about the Gunpowder Plot.

After we had collected our prize, we then headed to meet the bowman.

He was very entertaining and told us lots about medieval warfare. We really enjoyed watching him try and hit the target. He made it look much easier than it actually is.

Whilst we had our lunch we watched the amazing Falconer's Quest Birds of Prey display. It was quite a spectacle and having the birds fly just above our heads was such a fantastic experience.

Before we got back on the coach we went to the Princess Tower and met a princess who told us a story about a prince who had been frozen in time. We had to help her uncover the clue, find the missing cogs to operate the clock and free the prince. It was a happy ending as the prince and princess were reunited and were finally married.

I think it's safe to say that we had the most amazing day at Warwick Castle and some of us were sad to leave. But hopefully we have created some super memories to treasure and share with our families.

Winter Morning By Ogden Nash

Today we started learning this poem ahead of our poetry recital at the end of this half term. If you have mislaid the paper copy, here it is for you to enjoy performing at home. There is also an option for children to learn their own poem and recite it in front of the other classes (Reception, Year 1 and Year 2) if they would like to.  Winter is the king of showmen, Turning tree stumps into snow men And houses into birthday cakes And spreading sugar over lakes. Smooth and clean and frosty white, The world looks good enough to bite. That's the season to be young, Catching snowflakes on your tongue! Snow is snowy when it's snowing. I'm sorry it's slushy when it’s going.

Have You Filled a Bucket Today?

Today we read the story ‘Have You Filled a Bucket Today?' This book introduces the idea that we all carry around an invisible bucket with us every day. The bucket's purpose is to hold good thoughts and good feelings about ourselves. We talked about how we can fill ours and other people’s buckets by carrying out acts of kindness. Mrs Hurst set us the challenge to achieve one act of kindness this afternoon. If we have achieved this, then we will have brought a certificate home with us. The challenge does not end there. Mrs Hurst has asked us to show kindness and fill up the buckets of those people at home. Please send in any examples of this as we would love to hear about how our lesson on kindness is spreading beyond the school gates.

Party Time!

On Wednesday we had a class party!  We've been reading Kipper's Birthday and decided to have our own party.  Party food lists were made, invitations to favourite teddies were sent home and party outfits were ready to wear.                We had crunchy carrots, delicious cake, tasty crisps, popping popcorn and wobbly jelly. We even lit some candles and sang Happy Birthday.  Harry blew the candles out for us.                      Some of us even chose to do some writi...
