Spring Walk

Today we went on a walk to see what was growing around our walk. It was interesting to compare this with what we saw back on our Winter walk.

We could see that there are things in the process of growing in our vegetable garden.

The Forest School area looked quite bare. Jessica made a good comment that if we come back in the Summer things might have grown.

Freya spotted that there were some buds developing in these troughs on the playground.

However, there were plenty of beautiful Spring flowers on display in the flower beds at the front of the school.

Winter Morning By Ogden Nash

Today we started learning this poem ahead of our poetry recital at the end of this half term. If you have mislaid the paper copy, here it is for you to enjoy performing at home. There is also an option for children to learn their own poem and recite it in front of the other classes (Reception, Year 1 and Year 2) if they would like to.  Winter is the king of showmen, Turning tree stumps into snow men And houses into birthday cakes And spreading sugar over lakes. Smooth and clean and frosty white, The world looks good enough to bite. That's the season to be young, Catching snowflakes on your tongue! Snow is snowy when it's snowing. I'm sorry it's slushy when it’s going.

Have You Filled a Bucket Today?

Today we read the story ‘Have You Filled a Bucket Today?' This book introduces the idea that we all carry around an invisible bucket with us every day. The bucket's purpose is to hold good thoughts and good feelings about ourselves. We talked about how we can fill ours and other people’s buckets by carrying out acts of kindness. Mrs Hurst set us the challenge to achieve one act of kindness this afternoon. If we have achieved this, then we will have brought a certificate home with us. The challenge does not end there. Mrs Hurst has asked us to show kindness and fill up the buckets of those people at home. Please send in any examples of this as we would love to hear about how our lesson on kindness is spreading beyond the school gates.

Reading with Year 4

At the start of each month, 1GH are going to join up with 4W and share some books together.  It is a great opportunity for the older children to read to the younger children.  Some of us took our books into The Oasis and enjoyed the first bit of Spring sunshine.
