We're going on a bird hunt...

We took full advantage of a dry day yesterday and headed outside for a walk around the school grounds. In the classroom we had been looking at different birds and how we might identify them. In pairs we took photos on the IPADs of the places where we spotted birds and if we were lucky enough we captured the birds that we managed to see. It was a beautifully clear day so we could see them swooping above our heads high in the bright blue sky. We were also fortunate enough to hear the birds singing sweetly and we even heard a robin. It flew away when we tried to get close to it, but Mrs Hurst found some robin song sounds on the IPAD and as soon as the robin heard it, it started replying. What a fantastic sound to hear!

100% Attendance

As a reward for achieving 100% attendance for a whole week, 1GH will be able to come to school in non-uniform on Wednesday 28th November 2018.  Well done 1GH!   Please remember the children will still need sensible shoes and warm clothes for playtimes.

Winter Morning By Ogden Nash

Today we started learning this poem ahead of our poetry recital at the end of this half term. If you have mislaid the paper copy, here it is for you to enjoy performing at home. There is also an option for children to learn their own poem and recite it in front of the other classes (Reception, Year 1 and Year 2) if they would like to.  Winter is the king of showmen, Turning tree stumps into snow men And houses into birthday cakes And spreading sugar over lakes. Smooth and clean and frosty white, The world looks good enough to bite. That's the season to be young, Catching snowflakes on your tongue! Snow is snowy when it's snowing. I'm sorry it's slushy when it’s going.

Have You Filled a Bucket Today?

Today we read the story ‘Have You Filled a Bucket Today?' This book introduces the idea that we all carry around an invisible bucket with us every day. The bucket's purpose is to hold good thoughts and good feelings about ourselves. We talked about how we can fill ours and other people’s buckets by carrying out acts of kindness. Mrs Hurst set us the challenge to achieve one act of kindness this afternoon. If we have achieved this, then we will have brought a certificate home with us. The challenge does not end there. Mrs Hurst has asked us to show kindness and fill up the buckets of those people at home. Please send in any examples of this as we would love to hear about how our lesson on kindness is spreading beyond the school gates.
